Hello, Dean! What is your favorite tool of the trade?
Professionally speaking, I stick to Photoshop. However, my favourites tend to switch from time to time. Sometimes certain mediums communicate my ideas better than others; traditional or digital. As much as I love the convenience of drawing on a cintiq, nothing beats the satisfaction I get from drawing on paper with an ink brush or quill pen. It’s less forgiving. Unlike having an “Undo” button in Photoshop (which I abuse from time to time), it makes me think about the mistakes I’ve made oppose to just erasing them from existence. Ink forces me to think and to be confident in the decisions I make in a drawing. Thus, teaches me to find that perfect line. It’s one reason why I love Al Hirschfeld’s work so much.To sum up the answer. Good ol’ fashion paper! Thanks for the question! I had fun refreshing some of my thought processes.
