Hello, David! What is your favorite tool of the trade?
I like to draw with a brush & ink a lot.
My main brush for that is a very old Chinese brush that changes every time I use it. It’s always a guess how it will behave each time I draw and that is part of the fun to see what will happen and dance with what it gives me.
I use the Pentel Parallell pen as my calligraphic nib style pen lately.
Jason Shawn Alexander and Jim Mahfood introduced me to it in 2011 (bought them on my bday that year, and bought Satine Phoenix a pentel brush pen that day too, which I also recommend) and I’ve been sharing the Parrallell nib pen with some of my favorited artists lately.
I was at Clive Barker’s house for the past couple weeks, signing and drawing in his new book that I did the cover too. I signed a copy of Dream Logic to Clive as a gift with a drawing I did with the Pentel pen. He loved the pen line drawing, and asked about it what kind of pen it was, and immediately ordered a set of Parrallell pens for himself based on the drawing I did for him.
Some art albums of drawings with these pens and brushes right here:
