Transit Rolls Out New Special Events Fare
===
Guelph Transit is making it easier to catch an event at the Sleeman Centre and River Run Centre by offering $1 bus rides, starting with the Guelph Storm’s home opener against Sarnia Sting on Friday, September 22.
The one-year Special Event Fare pilot program, approved by Guelph Council last June, allows event attendees, with proof of ticket, to ride Guelph Transit to and from an event for $1 for each one-way trip.
Riders must show their event ticket to the transit operator at the time of boarding to receive the $1 special event fare. This is a savings of $2, per trip.
Christine Laithwaite, supervisor of Transit Business Services, says it’s important to note that riders must pay the $1 fare with exact change.
“If you are riding Guelph Transit to and from the event you need to have $1 in cash each way as transit operators can’t make change. Also, hold onto your event ticket for the ride home as the transit operator will need to see it again.”
The special event fare begins three hours prior to the event start time and continues until end of bus service on the event day. The extended service window provides event goers the opportunity to connect with businesses and services in Guelph’s downtown before and/or after the event.
The Guelph Transit Special Event Fare pilot program runs until September 22, 2018. The program is designed to increase ridership and assist in alleviating parking and traffic pressures in the downtown core.
In mid-2018, City staff will recommend whether or not the City should continue with the program based on program use, revenue impact, and community relations.
