Introducing the Quipper School Assessments! (Part 2 of 3)

Earlier this week, we talked about the Quipper School Assessments and how these can help teachers not just determine their students’ proficiency level, but also facilitate learning that’s specific to their needs. The Back-to-School test (the first in the assessment series) will be released on July 6 and will be available until July 12. Results will be available on Link after the assessment period.

Remember, only approved teachers from official schools (those verified by Quipper) will have access to the assessments. So if you haven’t joined your official school or gotten approval as a teacher from your school, make sure you do so before July 6. Please also encourage your co-teachers to get approval. Learn how to join your official school and get approved here.

Here are some tips for taking the assessment test:

General Guidelines

  • This is a timed test; once you click START, the timer will start running
  • The timer cannot be stopped or paused once the test has started
  • Students are only allowed to take the same test once, so once they submit the test, they won’t be able to go back and change their answers

Technical Recommendations

  • Use a PC or laptop, as mobile devices may not be compatible with the platform
  • Recommended browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari

Before the Test

  • There should be enough space between the students to keep them from copying each others’ answers
  • Test the internet connection and other technical requirements
  • Prepare (or ask students to prepare) the necessary materials:
  • For courses with audio (English Listening tests): Bring headphones and test the audio to see if it works
  • For Math: Scratch papers and a pen for long calculations
  • Place a sign on the door (e.g. Online Test Ongoing - Please Do Not Disturb)
  • Request your ICT Coordinator to stand by during the test in case you encounter technical difficulties

During the Test

  • Make sure the environment is free from distractions
  • Remind students to keep any unauthorized digital devices or other possible sources of content (notebooks, books) in their bags
  • Remind the students to go to the restroom before they take the test since the timer cannot be paused or stopped once they click start
  • Proctoring:
  • Ask the students to raise their hand if they have any questions during the test
  • For any technical difficulties, consult your ICT Coordinator

After the Test

  • Collect all used scratch papers to prevent students from sharing answers with those who haven't taken the test yet
  • You may want to provide students who finish early with an activity for them to do while waiting for the others to complete the test

The assessment test should ideally be taken at school, under the supervision of a teacher. In case this isn’t possible, you can still have students take this at home. Just share these tips with their parents.
