I'm a Kinesiology/Pre-Med students wanting to make change and improve healthcare for the LGBT community, especially T. I would like to know& hear the transgender community, what could all physicians and future physicians learn or know to improve healthcare experience for you?
Trans people are often put into the awkward and unfair position of diagnosing ourselves and identifying the treatment all while being the patient.
We need more healthcare providers who not only get the basics (e.g., using preferred names/pronouns), but also understand the nuances of care for trans patients. WPATH and the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health are valuable resources for future and current healthcare professionals.
I would also give a shout out to the Philly Trans Health Conference as a great event to learn more about specific health care needs found among trans communities.
Healthcare providers who actually care about trans issues mean the world to people like me. Thank you.
