Would it be stereotypical for a Japanese character to wear a kitsune mask? Like, if they wore it to hide their identity.

Short answer: Yes. 

Long answer:

I’m not saying it probably isn’t a thing that could happen, but ugh, this is such an overused trope in Japanese pop culture. Japanese folks in Japan have used up the quota of “Entertaining instances of using a kitsune mask/ O-Inari-san mask to hide their identity” for the next 2 centuries. Just. So boring. Heck, the Nikkei director of No Time to Die went with a Noh mask, and that was way more entertaining. Just try something new. 

Want to know what my kitsune mask is for? Nothing. It hangs on my wall and collects dust. Sometimes I scare small neighborhood children on Halloween. Consider taking more risks so your Japanese reader doesn’t think “Great, another kitsune weeb.” 

What about Tanuki? They look really weird, and I always thought Tom Nook was way more intimidating than Crazy Redd. Like, Redd might cheat me, but I’m in debt to Nook for life. I think Hannya masks are also great since Hannya are jealous/ angry/ wronged female demons, and let me tell you that is a mood beca--
